The season begins in mid June and lasts from three to four weeks. With our mixture of early and late varieties you are assured of a long harvest season. Even after the Fourth of July the berries are very plentiful. Picking hours are from 7:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. with additional evening hours of 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. during the peak. Evening picking is great, since it's less hectic, and there's always plenty of berries.
How to Handle Your Strawberries
In order to keep your strawberries at their peak of freshness and flavor, remember these guidelines:
  • Pinch the stem as you pick.
  • Don't squeeze the berry.
  • Keep your berries cool, pick them in the cooler part of the day, not the midday heat.
  • Wait until you are ready to use your berries to hull and wash them.
  • Because of the straw mulch, it is not necessary to wash your berries.We do not spray chemicals on the fruit, so there is nothing to wash off. Your strawberries will not get frosty in the freezer if you don't wash them. If you insist, you can wash them directly after you take them from the freezer.
To freeze your berries: hull them, then either put them whole into freezer bags or containers, or slice or crush them and sweeten to taste. A cool snack is to pop a frozen whole berry in your mouth on a hot summer day.
